Moderate sign · many auctions

Same bidder across the store’s auctions

The same masked bidder appearing in many of one store’s auctions.

Updated

Checked in store reports. This pattern only appears across many of a store’s auctions, so a single listing can’t show it. Susbid checks it once enough people have checked a store’s auctions: look up a store.

What it looks like on eBay

  • Across several of one seller’s auctions, the same masked name and feedback score keeps showing up in the bid history.
  • Because eBay masks names, two different people can share a masked name. Matching the feedback score too makes a match likely, not certain.

Why it counts

A secondary account bidding on one seller’s items tends to show up across many of that seller’s auctions. Single auctions can’t show this; it only appears across many.

Innocent explanations

A present sign is a reason to look closer, not a conclusion. Common innocent reasons for this one:

  • Loyal repeat customers bid on most of a store’s auctions.
  • Masked names collide: a***e (5) can be several different people in a large category.

Check it yourself

  1. Open the bid histories of several of the seller’s completed auctions.
  2. Note the masked names and feedback scores that repeat.
